At Home Job versus Work at Home Job
There are two distinct methods of working from home and each presents unique challenges and rewards.

The at home job is exactly that. It is a job that you work at from your home. In other words, it is still a job. Essentially, you have just moved your work space to your home. You are accountable to a boss and his/her rules and regulations. Some people prefer this. Others find it too restrictive.

The work at home job, on the other hand, indicates that you own a business, are your own boss, and do not account to anyone (except your clients!).

As with most things in life each option comes with its own benefits and drawbacks. Make sure you know which one you prefer and which method works best for you because they present different challenges and rewards.

What are the Pros and Cons of an At Home Job?
As mentioned above the downside to an at home job is that it is a job. You work for someone else, and therefore are accountable to them. You have to follow their rules, meet their demands and their deadlines.

You depend on that employer for work. Your income and schedule (time) are fixed, AND your income is limited to what your employer believes you are worth. It is nearly impossible to change the amount of money you make at an at home job, aside from the occasional raise or cost of living adjustments. Overtime may be possible but ultimately the amount of time you’re allowed to work and the amount of money you will earn for your work and time is determined by someone else.

The upside is that you do not have to find your own clients and you know exactly how much money you are going to earn each month. You know what you have to produce to get paid and in return you know how much you will be compensated for your efforts. You are basically guaranteed to get paid if you put in the required hours and get the job done. Your pay doesn’t fluctuate when business is slow – unless of course it has several slow months and you get laid off!

What are the Pros and Cons of a Work at Home Job?
The upside of a work at home job is that you own the business and are the boss. Therefore you make the rules, decide the type of business you will run, and what your role in that business will be.

You set your own hours and you work, for the most part, on your own terms. Sometimes the client or the market dictates those terms but it is up to you whether you accept or reject those terms. You definitely have more freedom.

If you like the challenge of running your own business the sky is the limit. There are no restrictions placed on you or your income. If the business does well because of your hard work you reap the benefits, not someone else. You are not restricted by the limitations of an hourly wage or another person’s measure of your worth.

The downside to a work at home job is that when you own a business the responsibility for success and failure is yours and yours alone. There is no one behind you to prod you on and there is no regular pay cheque to fall back on when you hit a slow period.

Which Work From Home Method Do You Prefer?
Are you more comfortable working an at home job with its stability, rules and regulations, or do you prefer the freedom and challenge of creating and owning your own work at home business?

If you do not have an entrepreneurial spirit and prefer security and a steady pay cheque over the thrill of building your own business, then perhaps you would prefer an at home job.
